NPC Rwanda celebrated the International Disability Day in Child Friendly Schools and Special CentersOn 12th February, 2011 The National Paralympic Commitee of Rwanda supported by UNICEF through Right to Play/Rwanda, celebrated the International Disability Day in primary schools "Child Friendly Schools" and Special Centers for children with disabilities. Every year the NPC Rwanda celebrates the International Disability Day on 3rd December by organising sports activities and participating in activities organised by other PDOs (People with Disabilities'Organisations). This time the NPC Rwanda planned to organise it in schools and centers by choosing 3 sports which have to be played by children on that day. Those sports are Boccia for cerebral parlsy, Goal Ball for Vision impaired and Sitball for children with physical disability. Boccia photo during competition Goal Ball photo Sitball photo after the match The celebration activities held at Amahoro National Stadium of Remera, in NPC Rwanda Gymnasium from 10.00am. More than 120 children from 8 primary schools and 6 special centers participated and enjoyed the sport activities organised for them. The day was closed by the guest of honnor Honorable RWAKA Pierre Claver the representative of all people with disabilities in Rwanda chamber of Parlement, who encoureged the children to study hard as it the first key of good life and doing sports. He closed his speech by thanking every one and distributed sports equipments to the teams; Sets of Boccia balls to the centers, Goal Ball balls, Sitball nets and shorts. NPC Rwanda will continue to organise such event and increase the number of participants according to the funds available. In addition to this, NPC Rwanda has a very good collaboration with the Ministry of Education to see how sport for children with disabilities can be developed and to start organising inter classes and schools competitions. NPC Rwanda, UNICEF and Right to Play/Rwanda are committed to make sure that all children are playing at the same level especially children with disabilities wherever they are.
