Inclusion instead of Exclusion

NPC Rwanda has recently been planning a joint project with RBU, a Swedish DPO. NPC Rwanda has proposed the project be based in five different districts (Nyanza, Ngoma, Gicumbi, Nyamasheke, Kicukiro) in each province of Rwanda where we will work with schools and special centers at sector level. To specify the proposed project and general idea of the situation for people with a disability, four people from RBU visited Rwanda from the 25th to 28th October. One of the activities was to visit together the Gatagara special center in Nyanza.

The following pictures where taken during this trip.

The world health organisation states atleast 10 % of the children in Rwanda have a disability and unfortunately, especially in rural ereas chilren are not visable in education, and where disability is often seen as a stigma. This could be that 90% of population in Rwanda are farmers and they are inable to contribute. Often inclusive education is not practiced so this children face challenges in achieving in classroom, which in future increase the risk of further exclusion. The project between RBU and NPC Rwanda aims to promote and develop inclusive education through the use of sport for people with disabilities.

The proposed project will aim to increase access in schools, to sports for people with disabilities and therefore strengthening awareness on rights for PWDs. The project will focus on three key areas; mainstreaming disability, Capacity building and awareness raising.
to The role of RBU is to work in a partnership with NPC Rwanda in developing the project and supporting the project throughout it's duration.

The proposed project will run for a minimal of 3 years. NPC Rwanda will post more information here once the project is finalised. We are excited about the project and the impact it will have for children and young people with disabilities in Rwanda
